The Best Way to Spread Christmas Cheer...

... is singing loud for all to hear! (LOVE Elf!)

I was going to write a blog post about how I had one of those days yesterday (long story short: I spilled my morning coffee all over the kitchen floor, looked like a fool carrying an armload of stuff into work with my umbrella inside out while it was pouring, got to my car after work only to remember I'd left my purse inside and had to double back, and lost one of my contacts before working my second job and spent four hours at work half-blind). Instead, I noticed that today's topic for Aly's 12 Days of Christmas blog challenge is about Christmas songs, and I decided to blog about that, since it's much happier!

I LOVE Christmas songs; they are definitely one of my favorite parts of this time of year! Some of my fondest holiday memories include my mom getting out our ancient record player and the crackly old sound of classic Christmas carols. The two-disc Now That's What I Call Christmas! album (it has so many of the classics!) lives in my car's CD player during the month of December and 101.9 (our local all-Christmas radio station) makes its way onto my presets.

If I had to choose just a handful, my favorite classic Christmas tunes would have to be:
  • "The Christmas Song" by Nat King Cole
  • "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" by Frank Sinatra
  • "Merry Christmas Darling" by The Carpenters
  • "Do They Know It's Christmas" by Band Aid
  • "Wonderful Christmastime" by Paul McCartney
However, for the past few years, my absolute favorite Christmas song (the one that sets my heart aflutter when I hear the beginning chords on the radio) is Carrie Underwood's version of "Do You Hear What I Hear." I have always been in awe (and jealous!) of her amazing voice, and the way she sings this song is nothing short of perfection. There is just something about this song that makes me stop in my tracks, close my eyes and really feel the magic of Christmas.

(This video version only has a still picture [that's very pretty!], but the song is still wonderful.)

It gives me chills every time! And really puts me in the spirit of Christmas. Now I'm ready to go decorate, wrap gifts, bake cookies, the whole nine yards! :)
