Out with the Old (#18)

So in addition to working, keeping up with my online class and putting together job applications, I've spent the past few weekends going through my room and closet and getting rid of a lot of stuff. When I moved back from college, my belongings completely took over my room, which was full of stuff from my childhood to begin with. I figured it was probably time to start going through it all, so I spent an entire Saturday cleaning out my closet and made some amazing progress!

Before . . .

. . . and after!

It is definitely much-improved, especially since I can actually walk in it now! :)

Besides just cleansing my space and life in general, this is all also in preparation for completely re-doing my bedroom, which hasn't changed much since I was a freshman in high school. (My Dad keeps saying, "We just painted this room." I reply, "Dad, that was eight years ago!")

After tackling my closet, I started to go through everything in my room, which took another entire day to get through. I mainly got rid of knick-knacks and things that were cluttering up my room, separating things into "donate" and "trash" piles. Here's a few before pictures:

Years ago, my dad built custom shelves and a custom desk for my room that have been so useful and wonderful throughout the years. The desk is in the right corner in the photo above and the shelves are in the photo below.

Sadly, now that I'm all grown up, they don't really go with a grown-up room, so we took them down. Everything looks so different without them!

All day while I was trying to part with things from my childhood, I had Taylor Swift's "Never Grow Up" stuck in my head. "Take a picture in your mind of your childhood room . . . I just realized everything I have is someday gonna be gone." It was definitely bittersweet.

But now that I've cleared the way for new furniture (mine is fifteen years old, wow!), new linens and a fresh coat of paint, I'm really excited for what the room will look like when it's finished! Can't wait to make some more progress and see it start to come together! :)
