This past week was full of commemorative days and celebrations. Last Tuesday was my parents’ 25th wedding anniversary, and they celebrated with a trip to Las Vegas together. I really am lucky to have parents who are as devoted to each other as they are to their family, and who have set a great example as dedicated and caring partners for each other. This picture was taken on their wedding day, July 20, 1985.
On the same day, Nathan and I passed the six-and-a-half year mark in our relationship. I really can’t believe we’ve been together this long! This wasn't an anniversary that we celebrated in a big way, but it was nice to just recognize the commitment we have made to each other and to our relationship.
Wednesday was Nathan’s 23rd birthday! I’ve known Nathan since he was 15 and we’ve been together since he was 16 — it’s hard to believe that so much time has passed. I am so proud of the person he has become, and I am so excited to be a part of all of the amazing things I know he will do in his lifetime. I decorated this ice cream cake for him and hid it in the freezer, but he's an accidental snoop and found it before I brought it out!
In celebration of Nathan and the time we’ve spent together, these pictures are from the first few years of our relationship, starting from the very beginning! This picture was taken in January 2004, just a few days after we started dating, and is the first picture of us as a couple.
Our first dance together was the Sweetheart’s Dance on February 14, 2004.
We met because we were both involved in the vocal music and theater department at our high school, and that spring, we landed leading roles opposite each other in our production of Guys and Dolls. Nathan was Sky Masterson, the dashing, high-roller gangster, and I was Sarah Brown, a straight-laced missionary who gambles her way into Sky's arms.
It was like something out of a dream to stand on stage and sing with him.
We went on our annual trip to Florida for a vocal music competition in April...
… and I was his date to his Senior Prom in May.
I also got to see him walk across the stage in June. This picture is one of my favorites of him, and was taken right before his graduation from our high school.
I look back on everything we’ve gone through together, and it is amazing to realize that we have essentially grown up together and made each other into the people we are. Nathan is so many things to me, but more than anything, he has been my very best friend for the past six and a half years. And that is something that I wouldn’t trade for the world. <3
