The Home Life

After graduating from college a little over a month ago, I moved back to my parent's house in my hometown, a change that I was not necessarily thrilled about. During college, I lived at home between semesters but hadn't experienced living at home full-time since high school. I expected that I would have to make some adjustments, but hadn't entirely anticipated how difficult those adjustments would be.

It hasn't been the hardest transition I've experienced, but it hasn't been easy, either. I already miss living at school so much. I can close my eyes and see in my mind my bedroom in the last apartment I lived in, I can almost feel like I'm really there... and then I open my eyes and I'm back in my room at home. I miss living close to my friends and sisters, I miss the freedom that comes with living on my own. I love my parents, but we just don't see eye to eye on some things, and living under their roof can definitely strain our relationship.

However, there are some perks to living at home. I now live much closer to Nathan, which means we get to see more of each other. Plus I get to see his family more often, which I like. I love enjoying all the comforts of home, including parking in the garage and home-cooked meals. My house is so comfortable in a physical and emotional way that I never completely felt at school. I even like getting to see my family every day, despite the challenges that come with living with them.

I also love living on the water (or having a boyfriend who does).

Between the pool in my backyard and the creek in Nathan's, we get to spend much more time enjoying the outdoors than we did at school. I never felt like there was a comfortable place for me to relax outside at school, but at home I can't get enough of hanging out in the sunshine, especially with the amazing weather we have had lately.

I think this is a part of living at home that Nathan and I will be enjoying a lot this summer. :)
