Well, I have been a terrible blogger, but I am thrilled to return to the blogging world with my most exciting news yet:
I GOT A NEW JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This has happened so quickly, I can hardly believe it's even true! I found out about the position, which is at a PR/communications agency, from a friend from high school. I sent her my resume on Friday, January 21; I had a phone interview the following Wednesday, an in-person interview that Friday, and a second interview this past Tuesday. They called that night to offer me the job. Zero to fully employed in twelve days flat has to be some kind of record!
I am BEYOND EXCITED! This is not only a full-time position with a significant pay increase and full benefits, but also an awesome career opportunity. I'll be doing some things that I do at my current job, but I'll also be learning a lot of new skills and an entirely different side of public relations. The atmosphere of the office is creative, collaborative and fast-paced, and the whole agency is really geared toward the professional development of every employee. I feel so lucky to have found this position and this company, and out of all the jobs I've applied for, this is probably the best career opportunity of all.
I'm also extremely relieved that I will no longer be searching for a job. Eight solid months of job hunting and submitting applications to at least 60 jobs was one of the most difficult experiences of my life. I lost my self-confidence and questioned my self-worth, wondering what I had to offer and why anyone would want to hire me. My patience and perseverance were tested. I felt disappointed and embarrassed. My faith, in both myself and in God, was tried. At times, I felt completely hopeless.
As hard as this search has been, I really feel like I learned a lot. I discovered that the old adage is true: it's not what you know, it's who you know. I found that plans, while helpful, don't always turn out perfectly, and that's okay. I realized that I am stronger than I thought I was, and that God's timing is always perfect. And ultimately, I remembered that I do have a lot to offer, and I just had to find someone who could see that.
I had a strong feeling that this job would be the one, especially after what the hiring manager said to me at the end of my second interview, words I will never forget: "No matter what happens, you are very talented, you're bright as day, and you seem like a genuinely good person who is really grounded. You have a terrific future in front of you and, frankly, I hope that it's here." One of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me. Wow.
A few weeks ago, before I knew anything about this position, Nathan and I were in the car and the Katy Perry song, "Firework," was on the radio. Nathan pointed out a line in the song that I'd never heard before, and said it always made him think of me:
"Maybe your reason why all the doors are closed,
so you could open one that leads you to the perfect road."
It seems that, after months of disappointment and despair, I have finally found that road. And I couldn't be happier.
