Days Go By

I looked at the calendar the other day and realized that not only is it almost September, meaning that summer is drawing to a close (already!), but it has also been almost three whole months since I graduated college! In some ways, it feels like I’ve been gone forever, but in other ways, it seems like I only finished yesterday. Time sure is weird that way.

As the distance between me and my undergraduate days becomes longer, finding a full-time job and figuring out a career plan is weighing more heavily on my mind. I like the job that I have, but it’s a contract position that pays hourly and I don’t get any benefits, which really stinks. I started looking for something more permanent in mid-June and thought that I would have something figured out by the end of the summer, but nothing has worked out so far. I’m trying to stay optimistic and keep my eyes out for opportunities, but it’s recently been something that I am constantly thinking, worrying and obsessing about, and it leaves me feeling anxious and exhausted.

Fortunately, I’ve had quite a lot to keep me busy and distracted from obsessing over it, even on top of my busy work life. We recently had a staff retreat at work and spent the day kayaking! We paddled around Spa Creek in Annapolis for almost two hours, and although it was pretty tiring, it was also a great time, especially because the people in my office are just fun to be around. I would love to be able to kayak regularly; it’s a really nice way to enjoy the water as well as good exercise!

Nathan and I went to the wedding of one of his friends from high school. It was a perfect day up in Baltimore County, and the reception was held outside at her farm, which was so pretty!

This past weekend, I got to visit Ocean City (again) with a bunch of my Phi Mu sisters. This was our third year taking a trip to OC, and it was wonderful to be able to spend a whole weekend relaxing with some of my favorite girlfriends. We hung out at Seacrets, which has tables out in the water…

…and took scopes pictures on the beach (and spent lots of time there just chatting and hanging out).

Love the jumping pictures!

And the pyramid ones :)

We also enjoyed our annual all-you-can-eat crab feast at Hooper’s…

…and danced the night away at Dead Freddies.

I'm kind of bummed that summer is almost over, but I'm also really excited for fall and all of the exciting things that it's going to bring. And while I plan to stay on the lookout for a new job and persevere through this slump I've been feeling lately, I think that staying busy and distracted with fun things will definitely help keep me motivated. :)
